It would be very helpful and courteous to review a recipe made EXACTLY the style it is written. It is not beneficial at all to read how you lot rated your own recipes using another person'southward name. Marie, your recipe made as written, is excellent. Thank you!

THIS IS Crawly. Fellow and I couldn't believe it! I modified the recipe based on other people'due south comments. Everyone was saying to add Montreal Steak Seasoning, which I didn't have. So I looked it upward and information technology'southward basically comprised of pepper, salt, and paprica. For the rub i combined ane Tbsp each of kosher salt, crushed peppercorns (i crushed), and paprika. I likewise added about 1 tsp. of garlic powder. This I rubbed on the meat and sprayed a little olive oil over top. To the pot, i added 3 large chopped carrots, six or so small red potatoes (chopped), an onion, and half a container of small fresh mushrooms. Additionally, I added 2 bay leaves, virtually a tsp. of worshire sauce, and the onion soup mix along with the water. Didn't have celery. SUPER SPICE-A-RIFIC!!! Enjoy!

I accept cooked a lot of roast in my day and this is the ONLY time information technology has come out perfect! I didn't add any vegetables with it except for cutting an onion in half and setting it on top of the roast for the terminal three hours of cooking time. I made mashed potatoes and green beans separate, simply don't similar my potatoes to gustatory modality like annihilation except potatoes. I besides whisked 2 teaspoons of cornstarch with 1/two cup water and added to the au jus that I transfered to a sausepan. I boiled the au jus mixture for about 5 minutes, whisking ofttimes, for a wonderful dark-brown gravy. I was tempted to not cook information technology every bit long equally the recipe calls for, simply please but let information technology melt and proceed cheque on the liquid level. Roast cooked this mode just melts in your mouth! Thanks for sharing your talent!

why practise people have a recipe and plow it into another totally differtn recipe using it as a review? Just create a new recipe.

This was fabulous. I took a few reviewers advice and soaked the roast in red wine vinegar over nighttime. I made a rub with pepper, salt, lemon pepper and freshly minced garlic and so browned the roast on all sides. I was using my mother-in-law'due south roaster and it didn't accept low, med and loftier so I set it to near 200 degrees for 8.5 hours. I added the onion soup mix, some onion, lots of garlic, carrots, some celery we needed to become rid of and 2 potatoes. We served information technology with Sky Loftier Yorkshire Pudding (allrecipes.com) which was great! We also had garlic mashed potatoes and an piece of cake green salad. This was an AT recipe and nosotros'll utilize it again!

Swell recipe, but I browned the meat on all sides subsequently seasoning the roast with Montreal Steak Seasoning prior to putting it in the ho-hum cooker. This added cracking depth of season to the meat and the finished gravy. I omitted the potatoes from the slow cooker, and oven roasted them instead with olive oil, salt/pepper and whole garlic cloves during the last hour of cooking the roast. A crispy contrast to the luscious gravy. My family loved this meal!
12/05/2003
Very, very good--the only thing I did dissimilar is added a couple beef bouillon cubes and more water so that I could make lots of gravy. I fifty-fifty chopped upwardly the left over roast put information technology dorsum in the slow cooker and fabricated a stew with it--it was neat! Thank yous Marie!
08/12/2011
I followed the recipe exactly and was a fleck disappointed. I had high hopes starting out but the end effect was rather bland. Don't get me incorrect, the meat was nice and tender, the veggies yummy (a little mushy, but a skillful mushy), and there was plenty of gravy. However it needed flavor, also searing the meat with salt and pepper didn't exercise anything for it. What I would exercise adjacent time is sear the meat with Worcestershire, olive oil, and a little butter. Then after I put the meat into the crock-pot with veggies on top of the meat. I would deglaze the pan with a mix of either Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon and beef stock. Then I would pour the liquid with pan drippings into the crock-pot. I'm non sure if I would apply the onion soup mix or non, I think that would depend on the users personal preference.

Really enjoyed this, my construction working fiance & his friends practically inhaled this! I did replace the water with beer and added a little beef boullion... my bloke was overjoyed to discover a new way to get beer into his system and information technology gave it an astonishing season! There were no leftovers at all.

I used this as a starting point to learning how to brand a great roast. The showtime time I followed the recipe. The 2nd time I tweaked it after reading the reviews. At present, I accept created a masterpiece. This is how I practise information technology:Brand certain y'all use a Chuck roast first of all. And so, brown the meat with salt, pepper, garlic/onion as desired. Then, place in slow cooker. Deglaze the pan with a niggling beef broth and so add it and addtional tin can to slow cooker (total 2 cans of beef broth). Pour ane envelope of dry out onion soup mix on top, and 1 tBLsp of Worceshire sauce on top of the meat. Melt on low for 8hrs. After 6 hrs. add together quartered ruby potatoes and carrots to the slow cooker. When done it will be falling apart so remove from slow cooker advisedly. Make gravy by using broth and flour/cornstarch/water mixture and heating to just boiling in split up bucket stirring constantly till desired thickness is acheived. Yum!
04/28/2013
To all the reviewers that said "It was delicious, Merely I modified the recipe by adding this or changing this". Once y'all modify anything almost an original recipe, you are no longer cooking the recipe merely a new recipe that will taste zip similar that ane.
09/29/2008
For those of you that desire a thicker gravy, add flour and onion (for flavour) when you are browning the meat. Browning the meat gives it a nice color and there will exist no additional steps at the finish for a thicker gravy. I notice that beef goop gives a "tinny" taste. Using chicken broth lets the taste of the beef shine through. I use chicken broth along with a squeamish dry red vino. Remember that when adding wine, do not add together a wine that is also fruity or has been "oaked" (usually older wines). The long cooking time volition concentrate any fruit, oak or other flavors that the wine has. Likewise when adding vegetables, add them about halfway through the cooking time and NOT in the beginning. Delicious!
xi/ten/2008
Fall apart TENDER! I've been making this recipe for many years (before this was even added). There's no demand to brown roast offset! No need for the salt! THE ONION SOUP MIX HAS Plenty Table salt IN It ALONE! Listen- Just throw the roast in the crock, merely place carrots around it, (Use the cut upward potatoes for mashed, it just goes much better with the tender roast!)embrace height of roast with onion soup mix and then Height WITH CREAM OF MUSHROOM SOUP. You'll see it'due south just fantabulous!
04/15/2009
In combination of several suggestions in the reviews, this was merely the Nigh DELICIOUS AND TENDER roast I have ever tasted (it was too my get-go fourth dimension making one)! Here's what I did... I sliced a 2½ lb boneless beef chuck pot roast into iv large serving pieces. It didn't have much fatty so no trimming was necessary. In a deep dish, I rubbed all sides with steak seasoning, fresh ground blackness pepper, coarse kosher salt, and about 2+ tablespoons ready-to-apply minced garlic so poured about 1+ tablespoon balsamic vinegar and Worcestershire sauce on pinnacle turning the meat to glaze. While that sat, I sliced up a yellowish onion then browned the meat on all sides with the onion in extra virgin olive oil. Transferred the meat (including all the juices in the pan) to my slow cooker, added 1 cup beef broth, ane+ tablespoon minced garlic, ¼ packet of onion soup mix (leftover from making dip), fresh ground pepper, garlic common salt, oregano, marjoram, thyme, and paprika. Covered and prepare to low for 6-eight hours. Just about ii hours before it was done, I added whole infant carrots, chunks of celery, blood-red onion, and mushrooms. Instead of adding potatoes, I made mashed potatoes and brown gravy from the juices. The original recipe is a skillful "base". Just be creative and utilize your spices!
03/17/2011
I have prepared my pot roasts this mode quite a few times now, and am finally getting around to reviewing the recipe! Sometimes I add a teaspoon or two of Better than Bouillon beef base, a clove or two of minced garlic, or utilise beef broth rather than h2o, but the basic recipe e'er remains the same, and ever turns out delicious. I had planned on making this today, actually. I bought my beef in bulk from a local farmer who raises grass-fed cows for the showtime time ever, and was so excited to pop my first grass-fed roast into the crock pot this morning! I defrosted it, unwrapped it, and and then realized it was actually a 7-bone chuck roast. Non a boneless chuck roast. I had already defrosted it, and then I went alee and browned it, and then tried to stuff it in my crock pot. No such luck. It wasn't going to fit. So, information technology sat in my refrigerator in my covered roasting pan "marinating" in the onion soup mix and h2o all 24-hour interval while I did some research on how to cook a 7-bone roast in the oven. Just in case anyone wants to utilize this type of cutting, or finds themselves in a similar demark, hither's what I did: broil covered at 280 for 4 hours, adding the veggies at the terminal hour. The outcome was fall-off-the-os, slice-with-a-fork, melt in your mouth tender and admittedly delicious! Crock pot is good, but this method produced a roast equally equally expert. The next "variation" I'm going to effort is to make my own onion soup mix from a recipe also here on AllRecipes. Can't wait!
02/15/2011
Great base recipe! I took the advice of others and browned my meat in olive oil only kickoff I rubbed it with Montreal Steak Seasoning on all sides. I used a 1lb bag of carrots and about five ruby potatoes - skins left on, whole onion - sliced, and 2 stalks of celery. I used two cups of water and boiled it on stove with 2 beef boullion cubes. I added the onion soup mix to the boiling beef goop and poured mixture over meat and veggies in crock pot. I besides added virtually i/4C worcestershire sauce. I added some garlice pepper & garlic table salt to the crock pot. Cooked on low for 9 hours and meat was falling autonomously! I removed the roast from the crock pot and cut it up then added corn starch mixed with cold water to the crock pot to thicken up the juices into a gravy. Everything was perfect!!
06/xxx/2010
adding my 2 cents! I did modify information technology based on other reviews...2 pkgs of o.s.thou instead of 1, instead of water I used a half cup of beef broth and a half cup cooking wine, and I also threw in a can of cream of mush. soup....I know the betoken is to become away from a soup mix (foam soup that is) only I thought it was the best roast that I have ever made!!! Oh i more affair...I omited the potatoes and fabricated mashed instead! I know that people sometimes have something to say about people rating a recipe after they have added thier own tweeks, but isint it what its kind of about?? getting ideas from others and tweeking them to suit our own gustatory modality? I d g...Just proverb give this a attempt! It is awesome! My veggies were perfectly cooked every bit directed in the recipe!
12/26/2010
MMM.... MMM.... MMM.... yummy! Yeah that sum's it upwardly. Stop reading all the reviews and just attempt information technology... your gonna love it.
09/26/2007
This is an one-time standby at my business firm. my mother made this many times while I was growing upwards, and information technology was one of my favorite meals. My husband now loves this pot roast! I don't always brown the roast first, depending on how rushed I am that morn. The terminal fourth dimension I made this, I peeled and sliced the potatoes the night before and stored them in a ziplock bag with water. I placed the raw beef, seasonings, and onions in a crockpot liner sealed with a twist tie and popped it in the fridge. The next morn, I but had to untie the crockpot liner and place it in the pot. I drained the potatoes and opened a bag of peeled babe carrots to add to the pot. Easy and succulent!
10/27/2007
Used a three.5lb rump roast instead and it worked out amazingly!! The meat just fell apart and was total of flavor. I did alter the recipie as others suggested. Seasoned the beef with ground pepper & garlic common salt. Added a tin of beef broth and a few dashes of worcestershire sauce to recipe. I also added mushrooms during terminal 4 hours of cooking. At the stop, took out all the veg and thickend the sauce with flour. Used more than potatoes then what recipe called for and omitted the celery. All-time roast I ever made!! Very tastey.
ten/14/2005
This is a staple in my business firm...we Love information technology! I use garlic common salt and pepper, and Lipton Beefy Onion soup mix. I as well apply baby carrots and sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes. I add a tin of beef goop to ensure there is enough liquid to cover the meat. Cooks on LOW for 10-12 hrs, and is just perfect! I make "pot roast burritos" with the leftovers...hubby loves those! :) An Piece of cake, no-hassle, tasty pot roast!!! *note - shut all of your bedroom doors when you plow on the crock or else your rooms will smell like pot roast for days...)
x/28/2007
I accept been doing pot roast like this for years. The bonus is, brand an extra roast at the aforementioned fourth dimension, or utilize leftover roast and goop left in cooker for beefiness and noodles, or chop leftover beef and veggies ad back to broth, add frozen mixed veggies, chopped cabbage, and a little V8 juice and yous have delicious homemade beef vegetable soup!!!!!!!!!
01/21/2010
WOW!!! Let me tell you, I take tried to brand pot roast several times already but I gave upwards because the meat ended up being dry. I used stewing beef, rump roast, and other cuts. At present I know You MUST USE CHUCK ROAST...that'south what makes this recipe super! I took the advice of other reviewers and rubbed the meat with Montreal Seasoning but I did not chocolate-brown it--simply put it in the crockpot. I besides used a tin of beef goop instead of water. I added vegetables one-half style through and used red potatoes because it's non equally starchy as white. My son said the beef just melts in your mouth! Tasty, delicious and great comfort nutrient! I've always wanted a practiced beef roast/stew recipe and now I accept it! Give thanks You, Marie, for sharing and telling u.s.a. to use the right cut of beef!

I was feeling a petty 50'south homey and wanted to feed my family something lumberjack hearty, and then pot roast was an easy determination. However, never having made it before, I wanted to endeavour this recipe since it promised 2 important things: moist + juicy. I layered the bottom of the crock pot with baby carrots, halved celery stalks and quartered ruddy potatoes. And then, I combined the onion soup mix with 1 can of beef broth and poured it over all. The ii.5 lb roast was next. I rubbed it with minced fresh garlic, pepper and salt, then gave it a quick sear in olive oil. The roast then joined the veggies in the crockpot, and the remaining olive oil + pan juices were poured over all. Our dinner cooked for 14 hours on low, which in the end, would take been better at 12 hours. However, information technology was succulent! Our veggies weren't mushy at all, the savory onion taste had thoroughly captivated into everything, and there wasn't even a demand to brand gravy. Next time though, I'll make the potatoes separately. I idea they took away too much of the flavor, and will add together lots more carrots + celery, and just a bear on of water to end up with more juice at the finish. This tasted much improve the 2d day equally leftovers, merely the meat hasn't lost any of its autumn apartiness that my family loves. Would definitely make this once again with a few tweaks.

My 87 year old Dad prefers hot meals for supper even in the summertime. I made this crockpot meal to avoid heating up the house. Because information technology was just him and me, I but used a 2 pound chuck roast. Next time I'one thousand making a bigger one. This was fabled! Dad raved about it and be both wished we had more than leftovers. A very easy but admittedly delicious meal!
02/24/2014
Really loved the roast. It was tender, juicy and cut with a fork. Notwithstanding, I made a mistake. I used both the dry onion soup mix and vegetable broth. I should have used ane or the other. Had I added extra common salt, it would have been mode besides salty. Next fourth dimension I make this, and I admittedly WILL brand it again, I'll take intendance to watch the salt content. I'd much rather add more to my plate than risk the dish being over salty. And I did add extra carrots and potatoes. With a iii pound chuck roast, I added at least 6 prissy size potatoes and 2 pounds of carrots. It was a terrific meal, served with nice hot biscuits.
12/fifteen/2008
Very tasty roast. Quick notes: 1/2 the soup mix, information technology tin can brand it way besides salty (add maple syrup to cut of need be), sear with steak seasoning, de-coat with scarlet wine and add to the tiresome cooker. Worcestershire works well (don't over do it though or you are back to the salty problem). Toss in a bay leafage and you are good to go. Have tried this a few times and am constantly tweaking, but follow other suggestions and add together your own flair and you will be laughing all the way to the dinner table.
03/22/2011
This was my first pot roast Always, and it was so easy! I've made it twice, and I've e'er used a roast that was less than 3 lbs. I used beefiness broth instead of h2o and threw in tons of actress veggies. I also took the communication of some of the other reviews and added Worcestershire sauce and used a Montreal Steak rub on the meat earlier browning. I've left this roast to melt for up to x hours on depression, and it's turned out great both times!
12/xiv/2008
add 1/4 cup red vino, viii oz. mushrooms, 4 cloves garlic, and 14 oz. tin beef broth. Thicken gravy with a 2 oz. brown roux.
10/25/2008
A very good basic boring cooker roast. Afterwards reading reviews, I fabricated a few changes...I inserted slivered garlic into roast; browned the roast on all sides, so removed to the tedious cooker. I browned an additional onion in the skillet, and then deglazed the pan with 1 cup of cherry wine, instead of adding water. I added 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, the soup mix, then poured it over the roast. I cooked on high for iv hours, added the veggies, then cooked some other 4 on low. My entire family loved information technology. Next time, I'll dark-brown sliced mushrooms to add to the mix!
12/21/2011
Great simple and tasty recipe!!
07/thirteen/2010
I just have to say; why would anyone ruin a good tasting dish with that awful onion mix. It's so imitation an salty and overpowering.
01/xxx/2012
This was melt in your oral cavity delicious! I used a 2.5 lb chuck and let it get for ix-10 hours. Information technology was falling autonomously and was perfect! I, similar other reviewers used low sodium beefiness broth. I made upwardly my own rub and used that earlier browning information technology in the pan (Kosher salt, fresh ground pepper, red pepper flakes, paprika, and garlic powder). I fabricated a gravy from the leavings in the crock pot and that was delicious every bit well (Merely the juice/goop with a cornstarch/water mixture -- added some common salt and pepper). I also used Yukon Gold potatoes. Those or cherry potatoes are really best for this kind of thing. They hold together improve than Russet. I just ate some leftovers for lunch and they were just as skillful as last night. Mmmmmmm!
05/05/2013
Splendid recipe. I added several cloves of garlic, 2 cups cherry-red wine instead of 1 cup water, spiced 3.3 lb chuck with Montreal spice earlier browning it, added bay leaves, used the onion mix, doubled potatoes and carrots but did not add them until half way through. I as well ran out of time and then I cooked information technology for 5+ hours on high. Everyone loved it!
11/27/2013
If its cooked too long the veges will be mushy and the roast volition fall autonomously so much it'southward virtually similar soup! Adding the veges half way through leaves a tastier pot roast that isn't mush! slap-up flavour with the soup packet!
09/17/2006
Yum - what great comfort nutrient! I used a smaller roast (2.5 lbs) so information technology was really done in 5 hours. As the meat rested earlier carving, I strained the vegetables from the juice and stirred in a slurry of cornstarch on the stovetop. After boiling a couple of minutes, I had a thick succulent gravy to pour over the meal. I highly recommend serving dinner rolls alongside to sop up the gravy. Definitely a do-over recipe in this house!
ten/28/2008
I made this roast yesterday in my new crock pot and wow it was sooo good. I browned a 3.5 lb chuck roast on the stove in a fiddling extra virgin olive oil and salt and pepper and then slow cooked it with the rest of the ingredients for 5.5 hours on low and it fell apart. I used scarlet skinned potatoes which I remember next time I will put in an hour after everything else. Oh yeah, I substituted beef broth for the water. With the left over roast I shredded it and added Sweet Baby Rays bbq sauce and my husband and I had it on hamburger buns tonight for dinner. Thanks for a not bad recipe Marie!
01/22/2014
I've been using this recipe for years. I'yard a little surprised by the review that said it turned out tasteless. You can add your ain touches to accommodate your gustatory modality, as I have from time to time only you lot tin can't lose with this basic recipe. It has always come out a winner.
eleven/thirteen/2010
This was my very first fourth dimension making a pot roast, and information technology turned out great! I rubbed the chuck roast with Montreal Steak Seasoning and garlic powder and browned it in olive oil, as others had suggested. I cooked information technology on Loftier for five hours, adding the veggies in during the last hr (and then they didn't turn to mush). Yummyyyy!!!
03/12/2009
Fabled!! It took only twenty minutes to prep! The only things I changed were (ane) browned the meat before putting it in the crock pot and (2) I used a small bag of babe carrots instead and (3) I seasoned the meat with salt, pepper, & garlic pulverisation before cooking. It cooked from 10am to vii:30pm and it was perfect. Just as good equally my moms. I also made this recipe another time and instead of using the onion soup mix I used McCormick's Slow Cooker Savory Pot Roast Seasoning..came in a pouch like taco seasoning. But mix with 1 loving cup water and cascade over the meat & veggies. It was good too!!
12/21/2006
This potroast using the slow cooker is corking. Before I brown the roast, I ordinarily glaze it with a thin layer of flour. It helps the browning and also adds to the gravy.
12/12/2005
Wonderful, simple comfort nutrient. I used a iii.v lb chuck and pressed Montreal seasoning into the beef prior to browning. I added beefiness stock instead of water, a couple glugs of reddish and white vino (think french onion soup), and a tin can of stewed tomatoes. I omited the potatoes, and served mashed on the side. I fabricated a gravy of a couple cups of the broth. Later 10 hours on low this was tender and delicious! Thank you!
02/09/2013
This is an absolute FAVORITE pot roast recipe--with a few modifications. The meat is always ridiculously tender, full of flavor, and tastes amazing! The changes we made are pretty simple-- I use one or two cans of beefiness goop instead of the 1c h2o (depending on the size of roast, 3.5lbs+ 2 cans, less than 3lbs 1can) I flavor the meat with either a montreal steak seasoning or another seasonings we have handy (garlic salt, onion pulverisation, pepper, maybe some paprika, whatever) and so sear in either a small amount of balsamic vinegar or olive oil. I like lots of vegetables so we double the vegetables and add one-half at the beginning (mushy vegetables every bit a result) but the other half a few hours earlier the end so they are cooked simply not mushy (this is why i add together the actress broth since i have lots of actress veggies). I have also used the bulky onion dry out soup mix a few times simply really couldn't tell much difference between normal onion soup mix--so i utilize whatsoever is on hand.
x/13/2008
Very tender and flavorful. And then I would not end up with mushy veggies I put onions on lesser of cooker, added meat(after browning), soup packet, 1 cup water and one cup beef goop and cooked that on loftier for two hours and low for 1 hour before adding potato chunks and baby carrots and cooking on low another iii hours. Perfectly tender meat which was non falling autonomously and sliced nicely and the veggies were soft only not mushy. Also makes delicious gravy.
01/27/2010
Like shooting fish in a barrel, easy, easy! And the meat was so proficient. I seasoned the meat with Montreal Steak seasoning and dusted with flour (used a chuck roast). Started it cooking in the AM with simply the liquid (I added only a lilliputian more), soup mix, celery, onion and some garlic. I added the carrots, potatoes a couple hours before it was washed. The meat fell apart and had a dainty flavor to it, the veggies were cooked well not mushy and the gravy was so yummy. Super and easy definitely a keeper!
01/18/2009
I've tried this recipe for the first time in December and information technology has get i of my favorite. Taking several advices from other Cooks who reviewed this recipe, I completely substitute water with beef broth, add the vegetables most iii/4 the way after the meat, and instead of common salt and pepper to gustatory modality the meat, I use a seasoned salt.
09/12/2006
What a great recipe!! I played with it a piddling bit & used other reviewer's ideas. I rubbed meat tenderizer, garlic powder, course ground pepper & crushed reddish pepper on information technology before I browned it. Used a can of beefiness broth, parcel of onion soup mix & bulky onion soup mix, worcestershire sauce, fresh mushrooms, carrots, celery & potatoe. Kept adding a piffling flake of salt, pepper & crushed red pepper as information technology cooked. It was autumn apart-melt in your oral cavity tender with a little kick to it! Everyone loved information technology.
11/xix/2003
Corking recipe. For a beefier season, I used a cup of canned beef broth, instead of the water, and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. This was a great dinner. I just threw it in the crockpot around ii, and since my roast was well-nigh one-half the size called for, it was done around 7. Thanks for the recipe : )
03/nineteen/2007
This was sooooo proficient! I did rub the roast with seasonings and a little flour before I browned on both sides. I too used one cup beef broth and 1/2 cup of h2o. I made a little gravy out of pan drippings and added at last infinitesimal to thicken. Will definitely be cooking this i a lot. Thanks.
03/eleven/2012
Family unit really liked it. Seasoned chuck roast with salt, onion powder, garlic pulverisation, mustard and a niggling cayenne. Seared in skillet on all sides. Placed in crock pot for half-dozen hours. Instead of water used chicken broth and added ii bay leafs. Didn't add onion or celery because nosotros didn't accept any and we didn't miss it. Added my potatoes 2 hours before it was washed, carrots and fresh light-green beans i.5 hours before done so scattering of mushrooms xv min earlier serving. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Veggies were non mush and had nifty season. Simply enough left for married man next day and he didn't listen eating it at all.
05/07/2007
I made this recipe this evening and it was the best roast nosotros have ever had (so my husband put information technology):) I read the reviews before cooking information technology and took the advice of some of the cooks. I used beef broth instead of water I added garlic and monteral steak seasoning. My roast was but about 2 1/2 pounds but I let information technology melt for eleven hours and it was better than ever earlier. The vegtables were falling apart along with the meat. Thanks for the recipe and all the inputs besides.
04/28/2013
I just want to say that yep, you need to use Chuck Roast, and other than whatsoever spices you lot want to add, all I accept ever done to take a perfect roast is to put the roast in the crockpot WITHOUT browning, and I don't add vegy'southward to the pot. This way, you don't demand to add any liquid. I add the onion soup mix and perhaps some extra onions, merely that's it. Very basic. I melt it on high for four to five hours. DONE! It merely falls apart...dear it, beloved information technology, dearest it!
03/22/2010
I browned the roast 1st & then cooked the onions in the same pot before adding to the crockpot. I used beef broth instead of the water & increased it to two cups. Admittedly delicious!
03/10/2014
Awesome Marie! I had a half dozen pound chuck roast so I adapted the recipe for 12 servings. Used reddish potatoes, skin on, quartered. Everything was delicious. Had meat left over and then accept cut the meat into ane inch cubes. Threw that into the crockpot with a mix of dry onion soup, water and cream of mushroom soup. Will throw all that on height of apartment egg noodles tonight. Walla, beef stroganoff! Thanks for sharing your recipe. Melt on!
01/22/2003
This was simple to prepare and very good. My two teens LOVED information technology. The gravy is more "au jus" so it tin can be sopped upward with bread. For leftovers, I shreaded the meat and it was fifty-fifty better. Instead of only using salt and pepper when I browned the meat, I used a flavor all type of seasoning and the flavor was total and rich. Definately a keeper.
02/18/2009
This was really good and I knew it would be. I did add a cup of blood-red wine and a can of golden cream of mushroom for thicker gravy just I know it would have been fine without it.
04/28/2011
delicious! i browned the meat every bit stated and that fabricated all the difference in the style it came out (as opposed to how i used to slow melt it before). cheers for the recipe
09/nineteen/2000
This was the kickoff time I have ever fabricated a roast in the slow cooker, and information technology was oh-so-easy! And, it was very practiced! I used baby carrots and new potatoes (quartered)and it was ready to go in just a few minutes! My 4 twelvemonth onetime daughter loved information technology!
11/xx/2013
This is the recipe from the Lipton soup mix box. Has been there forever! I don't similar the way the veggies are overcooked in this recipe. It is good but in that location are improve. Skilful for novice cooks.
02/13/2013
I've used this recipe many, many times, but take fabricated several changes to it. I like to glaze a couple of sides of the roast with Grillmates steak seasoning (very peppery and has salt), and I also splash some worcestershire sauce on it the night before and stick it in the fridge. The next morning, I sear the sides on the pan (with a fiddling olive oil). I likewise utilize beefiness goop (or craven broth, whichever I happen to accept at home) instead of h2o. I too use pocket-size blood-red potatoes and put them in whole. I cut all of my veggies in large chunks (onion is quartered, carrots in big chunks, etc.) For herbs/seasoning, I too add some thyme and rosemary and iv-half dozen cloves of minced garlic. Delicious!

Followed the recipe as shown....only like my mom used to make information technology :)

I made this for dinner this past Sunday. It was extremely like shooting fish in a barrel and the meat was melt in your rima oris moist. I felt however that it lacked some season. I retrieve next time I volition add together some worcestershire sauce to it. I will definitely make this again though, thanks.

This was wonderful pot roast! I used the Montreal Steak Seasoning and browned the meat alee of fourth dimension, and boy was that tasty! It added so much flavor. And I think browning the meat ahead of time seals in some of the moisture then that the roast is actress moist. I also used a can of beef broth instead of water. Yum!

I impressed my parents with this 1. We all loved information technology - very moist and tender - non overcooked. Information technology was good for leftovers likewise. I take a smaller, older crock pot, so I had to cut the roast (about four lbs.) into two chunks, then pile the veggies around it. After the first meal, I cut up more than veggies and slow-cooked them in the leftover juice so that I would have enough to go with the rest of the roast - excellent leftovers. As well, one time y'all refrigerate, the next solar day you lot can skim off the congealed fat to reduce fat content. I liked the recipe as an easy and tasty style to get some nutritional veggies and fiber - carrots, onions and celery.

Simply fabled!

Easy and extremely delicious! I added actress carrots and potatoes as I have a big irksome cooker. My husband loved this dish.

Followed the recipe with one exception. Earlier browning roast, I tied information technology. It cooked neat and after removing cording, sliced and plattered the meat and vegs. Served with buttered noodles for those who wanted them and also had mixed green Salad.

This was incredibly delicious. I used a 3-pound chuck roast (which was fatter than I expected) and browned it on all sides. After I put the roast in the slow cooker, I looked at the bits in the pan and decided to deglaze it with a little (maybe 3-4 Tbsp) balsamic vinegar. Next I poked 4 peeled and smashed garlic cloves in the roast and poured the thickened balsamic on information technology. Then I put a large sliced white onion on top and sprinkled the onion soup mix over that. Finally, I poured the h2o over everything and put it in the fridge. Effectually midnight, I took it out of the fridge and put it in the cooker on low. When I woke upwards at vii, I added 3/4 pound of baby carrots and some other large white onion (sliced). After about some other hour, I noticed the roast was falling apart, so I took it out and covered it with foil while everything else cooked some other two hours. And then I drained off the liquid and let information technology separate (because my roast was and then fatty). I skimmed off as much of the fat and put the roast, carrots, and onions back in the pot, followed by the skimmed liquid and left it on warm until it was ready to serve. The roast was fork tender and total of flavor. I served it with rice, carrots, and onions. I look forrad to eating the leftovers. I will brand this again! Thanks for sharing, Marie.

This was fantabulous.First pot roast I've always made, chose a marbley chuck roast equally directed. Replaced the water with the beef broth. I besides added garlic and a little extra onion soup for fear it wouldn't have plenty flavor, merely I didn't need all that, the original recipe would take been totally fine. I recollect next fourth dimension i'll merely make information technology as is with diluted beef broth. I live solitary so making big things like this, I need to be certain I can swallow information technology. And I did! Vegetables were perfectly done and yummy as well!
04/25/2014
Extremely EASY and succulent I followed Lyrica42 recommendations and served up with some fresh sourdough bread - perfect condolement food
11/xvi/2013
I've fabricated this recipe a dozen times or more. It's perfect as is. No need to alter anything!
03/31/2014
I made this and used beefiness broth instead of the water and no celery because I didn't have any. It was he best roast I have e'er made. My married man agreed and the kids ate it up and had 2d and 3rds. "Mom, this is the all-time dinner e'er."
03/18/2014
I cooked the pot roast without the potatoes and carrots. I did put in the onion and took a few garlic cloves and put them in the roast. Information technology is the all-time I take ever made!
06/15/2011
Succulent! I rubbed the roast with sea table salt, cracked pepper, marjoram, thyme and paprika, then dusted with flour before browning. Also, used almost twice the corporeality of potatoes and carrots and added a lilliputian more water and 3 cloves of garlic. Just needed to add a fiddling salt. Might utilise a vegetable stock base next time.

I made this for dinner tonight and got rave reviews from my hubby and step son! The roast was tender and moist. I didn't utilise the onion soup, just used beefiness bouillon dissolved in water instead. Browned in skillet w/a tad bacon grease black pepper, sea salt, onion pulverisation before putting in irksome cooker. Used the aluminum foil balls to support the roast in cooker. I used the juice from the roast to make gravy; cooked potatoes, carrots and celery stalks at the end of the cooking time for the roast. Yummmmmmm Yummmmmmm!
03/14/2010
YUM! I used this recipe for my start pot roast ever, and it was delish!! I added the potatoes halfway through cooking, per other reviewers' advice. Also used one can of beef broth and a fiddling garlic; otherwise, I fabricated the recipe as is. I cooked it on high for about six hours and it was perfect! And one tip* I used the crockpot liner bags that you buy in the grocery shop almost the ziplock baggies, and it made clean upwards Then much easier! Didn't change the taste or compromise the flavor a bit! I volition be making this recipe for years to come.
10/17/2013
This recipe was very easy to follow and it turned out keen. I didn't take 8 hours so I put it on high for vi hours and it was delish. I'm sure it would have been very good at eight to 10 on the depression setting. I didn't chop upwards the carrots or onion. I just made big huge chunks because I was afraid they would be mushy if I cut them to small they turned out amazing. I put whole red potatoes on the tiptop of all of it and they were just wonderful as well. I volition CERTAINLY do this recipe again. It's easy to make and has merely a few basic ingredients which was a large plus. I don't like having to go to the grocery to buy some expensive condiment or spice that I will never use again. Cheers for a wonderful meal.
01/twenty/2015
And then tasty! Turns out perfect every time! I like using scarlet potatoes instead of russet, and those don't get overcooked. Or sometimes I just leave the potatoes out and make mashed potatoes instead. Just apply half a packet of the mix. I is as well much! I use beef broth instead of water if I take it, I like it much more that fashion. Don't apply broth and a whole packet- it will be mode too salty!
02/16/2014
Succulent!
02/07/2009
No need to brown the roast (I take done information technology both ways). I used my medium size crock pot w/ a iii# boneless Chuck Roast, rubbed it with (Red Robin Seasoning &) sprinkled w/ Salt & Pepper. Put ane/2 package of Onion Soup Mix on it, poured one cup hot water, added iii lg potatoes & equally many baby carrots I could still allowing 1-2" clearance from top of crock as it is Of import you don't overfill your crock pot for proper cooking. (Makers' suggest on filling it 75% full.) I cooked on Loftier for five.v hours then turned it downward to Depression for the concluding 2 hours.... ~Wonderful Aroma ....TO Dice FOR!! 2ND-TIME-NOTES: Used BEEF Broth instead of water (almost 2 cups), did non brownish roast, used handbag of fingerling potatoes & cooked on Depression for 10 i/2 Hours. YUMMY!
04/22/2014
Followed the recipe only did use Montreal Steak Seasoning & added 2 cloves of garlic. Information technology was very good but seemed to be missing something to requite it a lilliputian more than season. Will apply this again. Thanks!
12/17/2008
My starting time pot roast! It came out a little tough i cooked on high for 4hrs, my mom-in-law says if on high i should have cooked for 3hrs but overall the sense of taste was very good, everyone ate information technology all. thank yous for a great recipe, def will make over again.
09/24/2013
This is a not bad recipe! With a few modifications of class. I like to braise my roast in some olive oil. I had a 3.5lb roast. I added two cups of beefiness broth to the mix (I dear the "Better than Bouillon" make, simply I retrieve the clandestine to the liquid is that I also like to add a tin of beer to it. Any beer in the fridge, doesn't really matter. I personally simply used a Bud Light. As per other reviewers, I added my potatoes, onion and carrots in at the half mode point and saw no use cutting upwards the carrots equally they're pocket-size enough and easily cook in the time that's left.

This is pretty much the way I have always made pot roast. But difference is that I don't always brownish information technology first. Merely I exercise put salt, pepper and flour all over the roast. This way, it makes it's ain gravy and is never lumpy. I utilize different seasonings - depending what I have on manus. I have used steak seasoning, seasoned table salt, garlic salt, etc. They all piece of work fine and are a matter of gustation. I use beefiness broth and bulky onion soup. For veggies I use potatoes (for average size potatoes, I quarter them, for large potatoes I cut them into six or vii pieces), two average size onions quartered and carrots (baby or regular). I use lots of potatoes because DH and sons love them this manner. This along with some rolls is one of our favorite dinners. I melt on depression in the crock pot for well-nigh 10 hours while I am at work. The business firm smells sooooo gooooood when nosotros come home!
09/29/2010
I gave this iv stars because I fabricated some changes. Starting time, I merely used a two lb roast. I followed the communication of others and rubbed Montreal Steak Seasoning on it and browned it in a bandage iron skillet. I as well substituted one loving cup beefiness broth for the water. When I came abode from work, the house smelled incredible! Baked some crescent rolls and DH and were in heaven!
11/16/2010
I've made this pot roast 2 Sundays in a row. And I volition probably keep making it every Lord's day. SO, And so, GOOD. I used a boneless chuck roast. Vegetables and meat done to perfection. Then easy, and tasted then great. Thank you for a smashing recipe that I will use again and again.
05/19/2011
Tasty and tender. I seasoned with lots of Montreal Seasoning but I didn't think it was necessary to use beefiness broth as some suggested, so I used 3/four c. water and 1/iv c. ruby wine, and I volition do the same next time. I left the peel on my small crimson whole potatoes and cut the carrots into largish chunks, and they were simply right after cooking all twenty-four hours on depression. I did leave out the celery and next time will add more carrots. Cheers!
10/24/2013
I didn't get to try this but my boyfriend RAVED nigh it. He said it was the best meal I have fabricated- which saddens me slightly since it was and then easy to ready. I took a few other annotate's suggestions and added some Worchestire- and also browned the meat with garlic pulverization, McCormick steak seasoning, common salt and pepper. Then threw everything into the crockpot and let it cook for the eight hours. Overall rating (from the swain)= AMAZING. Definitely a keeper.
02/xix/2014
adequate.
x/18/2011
So yummy! The meat falls apart just like a perfec pot roast should. I followed other's advice and used Montreal Steak seasoning and am glad I did. I also subbed beefiness broth for the h2o. There is enough juice in the pot afterwards cooking to make gravy. Cracking recipe!
11/17/2010
Mine turned out bang-up. The merely reason I give iv stars is because I inverse it slightly. Instead of h2o I used beef broth, and I added a larger variety of veggies. I took a trivial of the broth when it was done and mixed in a piffling flour to brand gravy. The roast was autumn autonomously perfect and the gravy was awesome. I volition get in once more with those minor changes.
10/02/2011
Instead of the onion soup mix, I added i tbsp Worcestershire sauce to the goop and inserted 1 bay leaf into the roast, discarding the bay leaf before serving the roast. IMHO, the roast was even better- without those pesky onion $.25 from the soup mix in the goop.
08/27/2013
Will try this recipe this week! If the meat is bland, effort using a knife to make holes all over the roast and stuff with a whole clove of garlic in each along with common salt, pepper and any other dry seasoning you may like. trust me the garlic gives nifty season!
x/17/2010
I loved the flavor of this pot roast! I followed the recipe completely other than using beefiness broth instead of h2o to be able to make delicious gravy at the end. I felt that 8 hours was the perfect time for this. Others have said to wait to add the vegtables until half style through, merely I don't retrieve they would take been as proficient if I would take done that. I used whole baby carrots, onions cut into fourths, and largely cubed russet potatoes. I idea they were the perfect texture with having simmered the entire fourth dimension. Just a very little crunch just soft enough to melt in your mouth. I'd recommend adding them at the beginning if yous like your veggies soft!
01/xviii/2008
Fabulous!!! I doctored this up a bit by adding 4 cloves of chopped garlic to the ho-hum cooker after the meat, veggies and soup mix were in. I as well used salt, pepper and flavour-all on the meat when I browned information technology in the skillet. I take a five quart boring cooker and used five pounds of chuck roast, 6 small/medium red potatoes, a small bag of baby carrots, 3 celery stalks, nigh a one/ii loving cup chopped onions and the garlic, . My tedious cooker was Full! I call back the onion soup mix is what makes this sooooo good! I permit is cook on low for 8 hours, just opened the slow cooker chapeau twice - and it came out FABULOUS!!! My family LOVED information technology and my hubby even said this is better than any he's had in a restaurant before. This is my new favorite slow cooker recipe and will be made many more times!! :)
09/19/2008
THE BEST EVER!!!!!! The meat was then ridiculously tender!!! It literally melted in your oral fissure! I did marinate my meat overnight(in italian dressing) and I also took the advice of previous reviewers with a few other changes: dissolve 2 beef boullion cubes in the water before adding information technology in (you lot could use 1 tin can of beef broth for the aforementioned result), and add 3 cloves of garlic, chopped equally well. I also added one tsp cayenne pepper to give it some boot. When it was washed, I could barely keep my boyfriend out of the pot long plenty to actually serve it upward! Oh I can't say enough about this roast- it was THAT proficient! I will exist reusing this recipe many many more times. Thanks sooo much Marie!
11/02/2008
Exactly what you retrieve of when you recollect of pot roast. Just perfect! I lightly floured mine and and so browned it - this manner it made its own gravy; no demand to thicken the juices.
05/23/2010
Didn't need ANY liquid in my slow cooker for perfection. Cooked ix hours and had plenty of liquid when done. Don't add carrots or potatoes until concluding hr or they'll go mushy. I similar turnips done this mode.
01/13/2010
This was fantastic! Based on the other reviews, dipped the meat in a flour and season mixture before browning. One thing I like most the recipe is that it is a everything but the kitchen sink every bit far as seasoning goes. Whatever I had, I threw in to the flour mixture. I assembled everything the nighttime before and threw it in the refrigerator. I cooked on high for an hour as shortly as I got up in the morning time and so switched information technology to depression and cooked from 8-6. The meat and vegetables were out of this earth. The potatoes were soft but not mushy but side by side time, I might omit them and serve over mashed potatoes. Will definitely make again.
